The author was able to drop B+ by using a 5Y3 rectifier tube and a beefy power resistor.
Here's what I have so far. This was an odds and ends build using parts on hand with as few exceptions as possible hence the cap board inside vs can caps. This my 1st attempt at PTP wiring -it's interesting to say the least. I followed sluckey's schematic for his AO-39 but added a cut control. I'll go over it tomorrow before firing it up. Just got a L-133 w/ an AO-43-1 amp on a trade, complete with tubes and speakers though they are not in the chassis. Am curious if the original Hammond speakers are any good for guitar, I now have 4 12's and would like to put them to use....will definitely use the grille cloth from the 3 organs I've been given.

My L-series has 2 Heppner 12" in it, but I am certainly going to try them since they are alnico.
One thing I have found after looking at (literally) dozens of speaks out of these, is that they never "doped" the edges of their cones for this application (at least I haven't seen it yet). So it's likely if I do like their tone, before they start to occupy half my slant front, they will get a ritual doping.
Billc, I know you can look up the first three numbers on the speaker edge at Weber and they have the code set for most all mfg.'s.
Very good Preset! I have been preoccupied for a couple weeks, mostly getting my arse kicked all 'round by the IRS. I am not brave enough yet to try a true point to point - but I like the idea for the future.

Thanks, I did check out the K-133/AO-68 speakers yesterday and they are two 12" Heppners too. Plan to start on the AO-68 first, it is point to point vs. the tag board on the AO-43, looks like an easier job and it works as is. Tentative plan is to go with an Ampeg design on the AO-68 as it has 7591 tubes and maybe a Matchless Spitfire with the AO-43.
I considered the Spitfire also for this one....I think the Ceriatone Creme Brulee layout was the same if it helps (I think that was the ef86 pre right?).

Looks like I'm stuck now in "diagnostics mode". I tried plumbing in that zener diode I bought (56v/50w) its an NTE5278AK last night, and was surprised to see on my DVM, that the secondary voltage hasn't dropped. At all. I still have 350v dc at B+(1). So this morning I jumpered across it and it appears to be doing "nothing". Same exact readings.
Was I misunderstanding the concept of this to expect about a 290v B+ after installing it? Or is this diode just faulty? It passes the diode check on my meter but I don't necessarily trust that now. I'm sure I got the correct CT wire (not the heaters one).

OK I think perhaps I just have the wrong CT wire selected for the zener. I'll have to check that out hopefully I can get this sussed out and get this puppy built this weekend.
Edit: after lifting both CT wires and re-testing, it IS the other CT wire that I should tie to the zener.

I figured the HT secondaries would have the smaller diameter wire since they only pass mA of current...wrong! Its that big fat red and yellow one.
