Tom, I basically followed Colt Knight's excellent advice over on the Tele forum.
The secret seems to be getting the grain filler and sanding sealer right, leaving plenty of time for the clear coats to cure and then careful sanding up to 2000, followed by buffing and polishing.
I used rattlecans and it took me a few gos to get the technique right. I messed up the first try and had to strip it back to wood, the second try the color was wrong so back to wood again. It was expensive and frustrating.
I was shocked when I buffed it up and I got this absolute mirror finish!
I'm working on my Strat sunburst today, neck is done, just needs buffing sometime, I'm going to spray the amber today if I can get the temperature in my shed up, it's 6 Celsius at the moment
I sprayed the edges black yesterday.
It's much easier after having done the Tele though.
The worst thing I am doing today is going through my Mouser order for my new build. AES is done, iron is ordered from Triode, but Mouser... it's a slow and frustrating process, especially when you combine AGB boards into a 50w #102.
No one can say I don't like a challenge
