Re: Gibson Knobs SOLVED
Thanks John.
That is basically how I did it, but I used a twist bit.
There is a tiny dot in the center of the knob where the paint was removed, but it isn't too noticeable.
What kind of pissed me off was that these were genuine Gibson knobs.
Maybe made to use with those metal pointers.
But who wants their knobs to sit a quarter inch off the deck?
They are so tight on the pot shaft now, that if I tried to pull them off, it would probably pull the pot apart.

Re: Gibson Knobs SOLVED
Maybe its something to do with the ergonomics/aesthetics, Tom.
Here's the Speedknobs at the same height! - bear-in-mind those tops aren't flat, either. They have an angled cavity.

Re: Gibson Knobs SOLVED
Nice goldtop!
Yeah it's just aesthetics, I really became aware of knob heights when I got into building guitars.
I hated strats with knobs 1/4" off the deck.
Looks really amateurish to me.
So that carried over to my LP.
The speed knobs that came on it were low to the deck.
It's just when spending quite a bit on genuine Gibson parts, I was
surprised how high they sat on the pots.
But each to their own.
