no problem using what was originally used when going after a particular sound or cloning an amp.

it's a far stretch to say that continuing to use those parts is some how innovative.

polyester caps were used by guitar amp builders because they were cheap.
they still are cheap.

renshen mentioned paper/oil caps...a good difilm paper/polyester/oil cap is comparable with a mkp/kp which is way small value oil caps were phased out.

Great article! Of the two clips, I picked the Stradivari which I found interesting. That said, I like new guitars, metal film resistors, and polypropylene :lol:
I listened to both, and thought there was a nice low midrange emphasis that the second had over the first. Where do you click to find out which is which?

Point well taken. By and large some musicians are pioneers, and where guitarists are concerned, pedal and FX have made the most in roads.

The Beatles who incorporated and exploited new sounds from Transistors Amps, ethnic instruments, an sampled keyboard, a variety of electric keyboard instruments, harpsichords, although not the first (the Doors used it before the Fab Four) a Synthesizer on their last recorded album did push the envelope and raised the bar for others to follow. They weren't afraid of new technology, but didn't abandon the tried and true, either.

One can be eclectic.

As to components, it doesn't mean that you can't achieve the same tones with other parts than HAD had used even though it would be easier to use the same. I don't use the same metal film resistors as Dumble or the same caps, if you listen and follow the tonal prototype to best of one's ability very good results can be achieved. One use polypropylene caps, but it may require additional parts and circuit changes to compensate. Will the amps be equal Dumble? In my case most likely they won't, but these efforts will departure points for new and different amps.
