Yes, ICs are in sockets. Cured by the Probe of Problem Fixing!

Fixed by accident!
Which chassis is it ? (chassis number on the rear plate)
The original thread described an HD150, your description sounds more like a 50W 1600 series chassis ("limiter").

In either case look at the speaker output jacks.
On the big amps they are wired in series on many versions.
On the 50RD they are switched for impedance by the extension jack, so even plugged into the main speaker jack the speaker power goes through contacts on the extension jack.
Either scenario can have issues.
