Mine sounds fantastic but it sure would be nice to have more volume on tap. Thinking that I should be able to get about 45 watts with the EL84's if I build another amp using 280 or 300v tranny.
I'm thinking that, unless you adjust the dropping string to maintain low preamp voltages, you are going to lose the character of the Rocket.

Zippy, on the other hand, there is something to be said for maintaining the proportionality of the original power supply design. I'll try and lower those voltages in the pre's next time and see how it compares to sticking to the original design with higher B+ to start with. It's all interesting isn't it? I really liked the sound of my "Rocket". Next time I'd make the 2nd stage cathode cap footswitchable without changing much else (other than the aforementioned preamp voltage experiment).
