The havoc you described might have occured with aluminium, right ?
The softer the material, the more it is subject to what you describe, I think. Wood being an extreme case : almost impossible to chamfer with a drill bit without a drill press. For that I have a chamfering bit, kinda what sluckey shown - just cheaper.
The method you're the most confortable with should the best for you, anyway.
I have almost the same deburing tool you shown - direct from the chinese - by the way. Ain't a bad tool, especially with soft material ...
