A true 50 watt tube amp (eg AC50, Fender 75) through a 4x12 with G12H speakers holds up fine against a guitar using a cranked 25-30 watt amp (eg AC30, JTM45) through a 1x12 G12M type speaker and (unmiked) drummer.

Notice speaker surface doubling vs. the guitar amp, nominally almost double power and use of big fat efficient speakers.
Not mentioned because it's a given: that bass 4x12" must be fat/bulky too, not just a plain 1960 type.
The Ampeg 4 x 12" V4 is such an example of a killer 4x12" for bass (also killer for guitar):

I've been using my ODS 124 build for bass and it sounds great with the eq set to "jazz."
