Davent - How did you do the rear of the amp in those pics? It looks like that is right on the chassis.

Hi Dave

Sanded drilled back panel, maybe to 400grit then sprayed on a few coats of lacquer. Applied laserjet waterslide decals. Then it's a matter of many light coats of the lacquer. Every once in a while a light wet-sanding to see if you can level sand yet. To make the edges of the decal dissappear the goal is to get enough clear on there in light coats that you can sand the clear level without burning through to the bare aluminum, something that's easy to do if you try to rush things as you can see above the EL84 in the second picture (and ignore the dust. )Still... i was pleased with the results.

takes a little time ... its cheap and works decent
Darin, I never tried it as I was afraid you'd see the slight edge of the decal even after the paint went on. So in fact it's invisible? I assume you print reverse? I guess there is a button, among the hundreds, in Word that does this? Getting them on straight must be bear too, you got some trick?
I got my info from davent posts a while back
I use word and insert word art then flip horizontally
this prints so you can stick to the back of plexi then paint
I use blue tape on opposite side and draw a level line
and get it close enough for RNR..you can see the edge of decals if
you look up close...again IMO its close enough for RNR

For alignment i printed out the faceplate in reverse, took two sheets for the 17" chassis taped the printout to the workbench. Aligned the drilled faceplate with the printout, affixed it then put the decals on lining them up with the printout.

Have also played around with doing a toner transfer with acrylic medium to the back of clear plexiglas but haven't done a faceplate. Think i've worked out the kinks with this method...

Scrap plexi and a fuzzy image.
