They're great people...

12GA romex works fine, my only complaint with using the raw romex wire is, it will tarnish like a penny quickly since its raw copper and when your working on the amp all the skin oil which gets on the wire accelerates the tarnishing, I guess you could in theory seal it after the solder work is done so it doesn't oxidize/corrode.

As for soldering to any thick wire, MAX heat on my hakko 936 and some Flux pen action works every time, bus wire, chassis, fender ground blobs..

I use 1/8" brass as my bus bars in all of my amps. Acquire it from McMasterCarr. Lowes and Home depot also carry it. Easy to cut using the bolt shears on a large set of wire strippers.

A weller WTCPT station with an 800 degree tip solders it easily.

FWIW, I always use 12AT7 for my 70's builds. Tweak the PI for minimum 2nd order distortion and I am good to go.

After trying out the AX7 I've gone back to the AT7, Big Daddy Dumble knows best, I guess :D
