Re: Power tube as a R-C stage
it is a little crazy, its nice to play with something that leads into other realms of the tube universe.
that 845 build sounds fun, haven't had the chance to play with power triodes yet, looking forward to see it posted if you get it up and running
I always surprised that more audio projects don't pop up on TAG, might be good little addition, new category etc...

Ya know what's cool? Mic amps. RCAs and Fearns and anything like RCAs, like Westerns, and RCAs.

Re: Power tube as a R-C stage
Andy,
I will post the design when done. I have some experience with 845 as a result of running a Chinese Music Angel 845 SET on the HiFi for a while (until it shorted an output tranny and blew up). I worry a bit about their robustness for portable equipment, I have some shock mounts left over from the day job (designing airborne electronics) and I am mounting the 845 on a "floating" sub chassis which is then shock mounted to the main chassis.
The other problem with these big tubes is their operating voltage, I'm going +850V rail for 20W out for the guitar amp but for HiFi they operate best up at around +1250 Volts (30 to 35 Watts Out). That is just not RECOMMENDED territory for your standard hobbiest.
Cheers,
Ian

I want to see this thing work! That sounds crazier than I had imagined by at least a few hundred volts.

That HT V is daunting, I don't think my DMM will even go there.
I've seen that if you exercise basic care during load in, set up, and tear down at a gig,
even fragile gear will make it and be reliable.
Many of the repairs I see across the bench are the result of gear being tossed around by stoned and drunk players at the end of crap gigs, just wanting to get the F@#& home, bouncing around in the back of the gig mobile etc...
A little TLC can go a long way.

Just measure it in two steps, relative to abother B+ source.Andy Le Blanc wrote:That HT V is daunting, I don't think my DMM will even go there.

I have a Vacuum Tube Multi Meter that measures to 1000 volts DC by Hewlett Packard. The old equipment ("Boat Anchors") really work well for Tubes, what they were designed for (Higher voltages).
Best Regards,
Steve
