The actual journal article is good, it's the summary / news article that's brain-dead. They mention that tubes are only good for high-power applications, and nowhere do they mention using this technology to accelerate computing. That's why really high speed circuits don't use 45nm or less MOSFET technology, they use vacuum tubes, because everyone knows that parasitic capacitance doesn't matter and electrons move faster in a vacuum...
