Take a good look in the files section and check out the various BOMs. they will give you good sorces.

I buy nearly everything from the USA.
Learn how to use the Mouser search and project facilities. The larger orders take around 4 working days from Texas, duty paid too, with free shipping. Their customer service in the UK is excellent too.

JMI Music in Texas is a good source for Mercury iron. I like it and Redplate uses it too.

Doug Hoffman is really useful for components.

Teflon wire from Big Daddy on ebay UK.

If you want boards and chassis that fit, jborders and CE are the way to go IMO.

When alls said and done. in your shoes, I would get a Ceraitone kit and pop some nice iron it. You can then tweak and mod that to your hearts content'

I have just finished a scratch build AB763 Deluxe ground up build. I don't look at the cost when doing these as economy doesn't come into it. I just build it how I want. It is still a lot cheaper than 2 Rock though :D

Haha they are very expensive, but they do sound good as well.

I reckon I could probably get everything in the UK other than Chassis and maybe boards, but I imagine there must be somewhere in the UK that makes custom eyelet boards.

I'm just looking at the Power Supply section just now, C&E Chassis do not have space for the 1-N-2 Grounding switch. So i can knock that off my BOM.
I've realised the power supply section is based around the American 120V supply, where in the UK we have 240V. I'll need to change this, perhaps some of the Brits can advise what they did in this department, I'm guessing different PT's.

I like the idea of the Ceriatone kits, however the Ceriatone ODS is something like $1100 plus about £250 shipping! (Sorry for mixed currency) I appreciate they're coming from Malaysia (I think).

Now I agree with you that cost isn't something I'm too worried about as it's more about the learning experience and the challenge.

I'll post the BOM here when I'm done tonight. It'll just be a list of parts, without source or pricing.

Edit: Attached first iteration of BOM.

Dunno where you get your pricing mate, example, a Ctone FM 50 kit is $450 and shipping is $62. No point in shipping iron from Asia, get some Hammond here or go for broke with Mercury :D I'm a total convert now!

The shipping was for with Cabinet, might be able to knock one together myself. The price was for package 4. You're right I could just pick up Transformers and Tubes in the UK... Ahhh and now I feel like I've put so much work into this already! I shall need to have a think about this.

However this might be the sensible choice.
I shall contemplate, however I think the Ceriatone might be the way to go now. Thank you so much for all your help and advice. Even if it is the Ceriatone, I could still open a thread and post about the build if you guys would still be interested?

Edit: I've just looked at Mercury magnetics Iron! It would cost over $500 for it without shipping from US to UK. I'm not sure if the Hammond ones, fit. I'll have to research. Has anyone made a ceriatone with Hammond Iron?

Why do you think I suggested it Matt? 8)

Contact Phil at Bluebell Audio, he will sort you out with Hammond. They have the right taps for the build including relays. This is for the 50w:
290 DEX PT (Now 291 - with better iron)

P-C194B choke

1760L OT

I would still consider MM iron. Postage was under $50. I got a full set for my Deluxe, even with a 5U4GB rectifier, which runs at 3A, the Mercury max current, it doesn't even get warm :D Contact Jim at JMI Music. Tell him Roger sent you :D

PS building cabs is not that hard, mate. I have done 3 and thet get easier each time.
This guy can help you:

I think you will struggle to order the specialised parts for D builds in the UK. Learn from others experience, Matt. The USA is your friend. CE chassis and jborders boards with some big orders to Mouser, AES, Apex Jr for wires, if you plan to go the scratch build route. There will be plenty of help on here, if you ask and also through the search function.
You will get less support for a Ctone kit, they are not popular on here, but don't worry, I will help you and some others I'm sure
