Maybe you have been talking to Zippy behind the scenes. He is full of these tricks from back in the day when he was an mod guy (I think maybe in Sacramento)... could have been another Randall Smith but felt a higher calling (US Navy).

I haven't done the schematic comparison but it's no stretch to find the similarities between the Plexi and 59' Bassman so that all adds up. Thanks for the schematic.
Keep the preamp voltages down and get more response I think running the higher plate voltage.
But you know Zippy I am just experimenting for myself. I want to discover things on my own. Reading about amps is one thing but experiencing through different types of amp circuits is what I am doing.
I have a long way to go to understand what affects the circuits, I am just a novice.
I was thinking of something like the attached cct, very close to both ccts depending on switch position...not sure about a MV, it would have to be on 10 for the 5F6, or use a PPIMV perhaps.

Cool stuff, Mark. I'm an experimentalist myself - in fact, it's my day gig (although not particular to guitar amps). I've often considered making modular amps - pre's, PI's, and power amps - to test the same things that you are doing.
Please let us know your sense of how the amp feels and sounds with the stiffer power section.
Oh yeah, I love the joke about you being a "novice".
Ok you experimentalists...ggg...has anyone ever moved v1 or all the preamp tubes to the front of the amp? I am starting to make layout considerations, and thought maybe shortening the long shielded lead from the input would be a good thing, and cant really think of the downside except perhaps having to split the circuit board? Since im drilling my own chassis....

Any comments?
There have been folks who have moved the valves around... I even made a PCB Rocket but kept the tube orientation generally similar to the traditional layout. When you consider that from the input to the intro resistor is sorta like an extension of your 15 foot guitar cable, I think a short piece of shielded cable internally is as extreme as you need. When you look at the length of the all the other leads in the traditional layout and the general flow of things it will be hard to beat it.
Of course if you want extreme you can always move the input jack right next to the tube socket but that also has it's down side.
There are some folks who believe that Ken Fischer had it perfect and that moving stuff around will not result in the same circuit. For the Express and Liverpool there is some merit to this thought but it's generally accepted that the Rocket is not that finicky.
