@ selloutrr...the 400+ thang was from the OP, not my post. You are a Boogie forum member as well? That's great! All the best to you!
Re: Mesa Power Tubes
damn I need more sleep! - sorry about that.
I'm not a member of the Boogie forum though I can browse, search, and view pics without being logged in.
I do own a dozen or so boogies
(.22cal., 400, 400+, MKI, MKIIC, MKIII, Single, Dual, Triple Rec's)
I've added the bias to 2 of them (triple rec's). The adjustable bias is a huge help in taming some of the high end sizzle and helped to dial in the sweet spot. Stock I would honestly say the Triple Rec is the hardest amp to dial in the "IT" tone I've ever worked with.
With the triple rec being the late 90's go to amp for the Alt rock and metal guys I had to get very familiar with those amps, and the PRS. The finished Mesa Sound is all about the oversized cabinets for low end, drop tunings, swooped mids, hi and lo pass filtering on the console to help remove that hiss, ribbon microphones blended with other mics / neve / api pre's. Little to No outboard compression the tone is from the natural tube compression when the amp is driven hard and loud.

Nice! I'm on the Boogie board too, and own a Mark IV head. Just played it last night at Feather Falls Casino in Oroville, CA. Couldn't turn it up nearly as loud as I wanted. Still awesome, though.

Re: Mesa Power Tubes
How do you like the Carvin? Is the neck really thin (front to back)? I'd like to try one of those, but I need a somewhat chunky neck to avoid tendinitis. The one other Carvin I found used had a neck that was too thin for me.xtian wrote:Last Saturday at Feather Falls Brewing Co, Oroville, CA, with Mike Comfort band.

Wife: How many amps do you need?
Me: Just one more...

Re: Mesa Power Tubes
I like it a lot. No, the neck is not thin. It has a deeper profile than my '92 American Strat. I also have a Hagstrom Viking, which has a much thinner neck--also an awesome guitar. The Carvin is the thickest of the lot. I ordered mine with satin finish on the neck--good choice.
Re: Mesa Power Tubes
The Carvin guitars are great wish I had a few of them.
