50 watt Trainwreck version?

Post by darmandude »

Does anyone here have any info on a higher output wattage Trainwreck, like maybe the Fransesca, or Liverpool? I like the sound of these, but I want more power.

use a 50 or 60 watt OT,,bump the PT voltage up to about 465 on the plates, change the supply resistor to keep the preamp and PI voltages correct, and you have a 50 watter. Some people are making a 100 watter.

Careful there. If you are talking about just cranking the voltages to achieve 50Ws, that isn't so safe to do on a Liverpool (4xEL 84).

What design is it that you want to work with? What output tubes are you running?

Yes, you can do as Richie suggested if you are using an Express (2xEL34).

Thank's Richie, I'd sure like to find some schmematic's for a 100 watter.

Look for the 80w thread and there you will find Allynmey's Express and either Dana or Richie noted information about an amp they built.

My express runs on 495v on the plates of x2 EL34 with a 50w OT.

sounds great, although i've got a zener diode string from the bridge rectifier to ground that can be switched in internally (needs biasing afterward) to give about 395v on the plates which is closer to the real wrecks, although I prefer the sound on the higher voltage.

What does that do to the preamp voltages? Seems like that would shift everything.

It does Zippy it moves the whole amp up a fair tad which makes the thing a tad cleaner, im now running it on wreck voltages using Zener diodes from the grounding of the Bridge Rectifier for that true wreck tone.

JamesHealey,

Which PT/OT transformers did you use and is your amp about right in the bass verses treble department which can be a problem on some Express amps?

I used a Carlsbro 60W Transformer and matching PT. from a '73 60TC amp.. although i've now dropped the B+ and im using a Toneslut Standard OT on the 6.6k Tap and it's an improvement for sure.
