Re: 66 Rockster Build
thanks for the suppport everyone,
I' aware of the fact that the pt and ot should be mounted in a 90 degree angled opposed to each other.
I was just wondering weither it would make a difference if I turned the PT 180 degrees, but M. Fowler made that clear now.
Btw. does anyone have a diagram of that heyboer OT that RJ sells?
Thanks

Re: 66 Rockster Build
Hi M fowler, if only it where that easy (well maybe it still is), but I already had those,
and the colour of the wires dont match with the ones on my ot, as can be seen on the pictures I posted earlier.
So I grabbed out my digital multimeter and this is the result:

I can't open those type of pictures on work CPU so will have to wait until I get home this afternoon to help you , sorry.

Not sure how you could have a different transformer wiring if it is a Toneslut Heyboer but here is the place for the Pacific TW tranny wiring if that helps.

Hi, let me jump in here for a second? What kind of meter do you have? I don't think you should be reading anything over .7 or .9 ohms for even the 16 ohm tap on the OT - Ground (black wire) to the particular tap.
You might typically read something like this:
.5 = 4 ohm
.7 = 8 ohm
.9 = 16 ohm
It looks like you have a spread there but the "1.XX ohm" doesn't look right.

Most people stall out when fixing a mistake that they've made. Why?

Ok your tricky I finally figured out you have the Dynaclone A-470-S output transformer. I used that in my Rocket amp as well. I had to blow up your photo and zoom in on the tranny label to get that info.
Here is the diagrahm.
It also has ultra linear taps that you are not going to use or you could your choice.

Re: 66 Rockster Build
I have had this discussion before with rj about using the lower powered Edcore PT.
I really think the Rocket needs to see more like about 280 to 300v but my Rocket sounds very sweet using the 240v Edcore just needs more volume.
Very nice build bluesbreaker62 and your are so close now with most of the hard stuff done.

Hi M. Fowler,
Thank you so much for your suppport, that will really help me to get going again.
The diagram and the outcome of my readings seem to ad up, still not sure how correct they are, but like you said Rooster, at least there's a spread.
The meter I'm using is a Voltcraft DT-21, nothing fancy, but It (usually) does the job.
Not to sure about the low secondary voltages either, the JTM's and rockets al seem to be in the 300v and up range, but I'll worry about that later.
Thanks again guys,
Robert

Re: 66 Rockster Build
I wired the tranny's in today, think I got it right, only thing I'm unsure about is how to run the OT primaries without getting interference with the other wires?
RJ runs them infront of the power tubes, but i've seen others running them along the output side of the chassis.
Here's what I did today:

Re: 66 Rockster Build
I’m not really familiar with this model but it seem strange to me to wrap the blue lead around most of the socket like that. I would just connect it directly since there’s nothing in that vicinity.
And the white primary lead appears to be actually leaning on some pins of the other socket. That scares me especially since it’s also very close to the screen resistor (which won’t get hot under normal conditions.) But the white wire is already trimmed.
If you were employing negative feedback you would need to keep the primaries long for now in case you might need to switch them. But it looks like there is no negative feedback here so no need to consider that.
Others can comment with actual knowledge of this model.

If it says "Vintage" on it, -it isn't.

Re: 66 Rockster Build
Hi JJman,
Thanks for the reply
It dindn't look right to me either, thats why I asked.
Innitially I had the primatry wires running on the other side of the sockets like I saw on the pics of RJ's build.
But when I looked on the layouts of other amps I saw that most of them had the wires running along the back of the chassis, so I went with that approach.
Unfortunately, by that time I had already cut the leads.
I gues I will just go back to my innitial approach. If it works for RJ, why not for me?

Re: 66 Rockster Build
Using separate bias resistors on the KT66s? I've tried both ways on a KT66 Rocket build (on a switch). The difference is subtle but breakup tone does seem a little smoother with a shared Rk. The cleans are better with split Rk IMO.
Rockster vs Rocket
For those that have built the Rockster and the Rocket, what are the differences in terms of tone.
