two amps

Post by llemtt »

You are talking about two different amps!

The one in the pict is the newer one (#148 IIRC). I have always seen those settings with that amp, never seen those settings on the main one!

It makes sense to me.

So what you're saying is that we're both right.

The blond top is a HRM and the black one ist Non-HRM, right??

I believe they are both Bluesmasters now, the black one recently went back to dumble to be made the same as the tan one.

When I looked in the back of the black one it seemed to have had the transformers swapped, I've heard from pretty reliable sources that it used to have Music Man Iron in it- it certainly does not now.

Do Bluesmaster means necessarily HRM? Are there non-HRM Bluesmasters dumbles also?

I think we cannot refer to the two amps as the blonde and black, because the cabinets got swapped at least once, and for at least a few years the #148 was in the combo cabinet, it's easier to distinguish the different faceplates.

IMHO the "older style green light amp" still has a linear ratio control while the "newer one" has a 1Meg audio (OD) volume control which explains the two different settings.

Does that means the black amp, which was is a combo housing, is similar to this amp:

And that it has been converted to BM specs and HRM, since the video clip was shot???

The amp in that video is the main one with serialn in the 120-130 range built in the early 80's.

Some say it was a "classic stack" (pre skyliner) low-plate and some say it was a "classic stack" high-plates just till around 1990 when it was retrofitted with the skyliner mod.

Some say a few years later (after 1993, after that video) it was heavily modified to became what it is currently a BM, HRM,...

Who really knows?

You're right nobody really knows.

I find that my (Ceriatone).........

Non Hrm,
Non BM,
V1: 220k/150k, (190v)
V2: 220k/150k (200v)
with the trimmer on 8:30 o'clock and
47p on volume and
40p on master,

......gets pretty close to the RF sound with lots of clean compression and lots of bloom.

So I find it hard to believe that RF's black amp should be HRM, BM etc. and very different from my amp. But then again, RF is such a great player.

A lot of folks are talking about the 'rugged road' sound or 'talk to your daughter' sound....don't get me worng I love those sounds, but the 'truth' album is on my car CD at the moment. And I find the sounds on that album are the best ever.
