Scored a FLUKE DMM 87-5
I hope I am buying a good tool but I scored a FLUKE 87-5 for $150.00 on ebay. Any thought on this DMM?

Perhaps someone else will comment on the price - I don't know the market.
As far as quality goes, the name Fluke says it all. As long as it works, you really can't go wrong with a Fluke.
There was a Fluke at every station when I took electronics (15 yrs ago) - I believe it was an 87.

I have the same DMM, also scored on ebay. I think I paid around $110-120 for it new in the box, a great deal. It is easy to use and it meets my needs as a basic builder. I am very happy with it.

sweet...I guess $120 would have been a better price and mine is almost new But I am pleased none the less.

Good score!
I was shopping for a Fluke one day in my smallish town.
There is an electronics shop that mostly sells surplus but they had some meters in their showcase.
The only Fluke they had was a lot of money and it was more geared towards HVAC work.
They had these Meterman DVM's as well. I'm an instant gratification type guy so I bought the Meterman 37XR.
I think I paid about $130.
Works really well and will even measure very small valued resistors and caps.
Some body told me that they are made by Fluke, not sure if that is true or not but it is a quality unit.
I guess Meterman was bought out by Amprobe.

I also bought some better meter probes.
These are really nice, the cables are super soft and flexible.

I worked 30 years in the field with meters. In the beginning we used Simpson #60s, as time went by we changed to 87s universally. Superb instrument. Very tough. It's just one of those legendary tools like the Simpson VOMs and Tek 453/465. The fuses are nasty expensive though and they will blow when you try to measure current over your range.

I was patient and watched ebay for a FLUKE 87 auction that ended late at night. I think that helped as there were no other bidders.
Those probemaster test leads look great...I think I will own some very soon.
