You could mimic an old Bassman or Showman cab and add some oval porting. These cabs had a seperator board in the center that allowed about an inch of air flow on each end and keeps the rear panel from vibrating out of phase with the baffle. You would want to make the ports quite a bit smaller than this picture so the 30 watt speakers don't over extend.

Henry

Interesting you should bring that cab up.. I was thinking of doing seperate chambers for this cabinet.. this amp has a ton of low end on tap...Those open style 2X12's can get pretty woofie sounding.. Especially up against a wall.. Thanks for the post

I've found that a Greenback paired with an EV sounds wonderfull in an open 2X12. My cab is an avator.

Peavey used t-bracing from 1x2 pine glued and fastened on any panels to eliminate the vibration and is very effective especially for 40 and 50 Hz enclosures.

I'm using something similar.
I have the EVM 12L with a Classic Lead 80 at the moment.

I may have to throw in the V30 to see what that would give me.

I tried a V30 with the EV and didn't like it. YMMV. I also use a pair of single cabs together with an EV and a 12-65. These sound more RF than LC. The EV and greenback give a nice LC sound, even at low volumes.

I've always liked the greenbacks for higher gain amps and especially Marshall's these speakers are tough to beat!!The only thing they lack for me is that crisp sparkle the 65's have.. What they lack in sparkle they make up for in that nice thick bell like tone.. (Midrange chime) .. So it mainly comes down to taste!!!.. The one thread that runs through all these speakers I test is the wattage...60 -80 watter's seem to be the sweet spot for the 2X12's in an open back design cab...They seem to produce enough low end yet start to give and compress at the right volume levels.. Anything higher and they start to lean on the stiffer side to me... anything lower and the low end suffers..
The first cab was an Oval back Avatar type cab..First thing was that nice Woodie tone...I was able to run the presence up a bit to try and get more of that sparkle but just wasn't quite there.. it sounded better with the mid boost on and with the EJ strat got nice and thick.. With the amp fairly cranked (about half way) seemed to be the spot... pretty loud got a wonderful tone..On certain notes I could hear the speaker starting to struggle a bit.... OD was nice but it made the problem worse so the amp had to come down a bit... At that point the low end kind of disappeared on me...My les Paul was a little better but still kind of noticed it..I pulled the speakers out and put them in a closed back front ported cab of my own design..That made a big difference...this helped with the bass response and gave the speakers some back pressure so they didn't hit bottom so soon and tightened things right up.. The sweet spot came at a lower volume and the bass was back.. I missed the open sound of the oval back but still sounded really good..So that's where they stayed..The OD was killer and with a Strat w/the midrange boosted was the deal for me... The clean channel was nice but the OD was better. These speakers definitely worked better w/ closed back design...... I am going to leave these speakers in this cab for when I do these smaller clubs playing the rock type gigs.. The Heritages ROCK!! The test was done on Non HRM Skyline w MM iron...100 w/50 switch w/6L's

Other than the lip where the chassis nuts go ( A little narrow) I was pleased...
