I've never heard Gambale play like this:

imagine what it would soundlike if he was using a Dumble.

Hi,martin manning wrote:Not to 'jack this thread (and you know that means I'm going to try...) What other examples of Dumble tones are out there?
Steely Dan is one of my favorites, as is Joni Mitchell's Miles of Aisles (a desert island disc for sure) and I'm aware of the David Lindley and Jackson Browne associations with D amps, also Lowell George, SRV, and of course more recently John Mayer. I'm a fan of jazz and fusion too, and the examples cited above are all great.
But, are there any other well-known or not-so-well-known examples? Maybe even some that are decidedly different from the above?
MPM
different: Henry Kaiser
Jazz - Fusion: "Moon Dancer" of Austrians Jazz and Fusion genius Charley (Karl) Ratzer (Enja Records) comes to my mind. "Silverface" Dumble with Tele and Gibson Super V.
Mainstream Pop: Steve Farris with #075 on all the hits of "Welcome To The Real World" and a lot of his studio gigs with Tori Amos, Celine Dion and others (Details you find on Rob Liveseys site in the #075 file).

Re: Starter LC record and LC or RF DVDs?
Thanks for getting me straight on that, Pete. All that stuff on vinyl is in boxes in my garage and hasn't seen a turntable in too many years. Yes, "Court and Spark" is the stellar Larry Carlton recording - the classic example of "less is more", how to emote with a single note, etc. Thanks again.Pete wrote:That is Mr Ford on the "Miles Of Aisles" record. Pictures inside the album cover of Joni with the L.A. Express include Robben and (to me) when you hear it you know it is RF playing. I have all the LA Express recordings, I think the first one was LC, and RF after that. Joni's "Court & Spark" recording is all LC, good stuff. There is a 1996 Tom Scott and the L.A. Express CD with RF on guitar (Joe Sample, Steve Gadd etc.), they "revisit" many of the old tunes.Zippy wrote:Am I recalling correctly that both Larry Carlton and Robben Ford played with Tom Scott's LA Express?
I enjoyed Larry Carlton's work on Joni Mitchell's "Miles of Aisles" tour - again with the LA Express as "backup."
