Re: Rocket Done Tonight
wouldn't the higher voltages give you more headroom and more clean ???
Re: Rocket Done Tonight
So does the clean amp serve as a good platform for a good fuzz pedal, or does it not like that either? (And I'm talking fuzz, not distortion or overdrive.)

Re: Rocket Done Tonight
I haven't found a pedal yet that is wonderful. Rob Keelers Push is versatile enough to sound good. His pedal sounds great through any amp though!
OCD or Zendrive
Allyn, have you tried the OCD from Fulltone or the Zendrive. The OCD is particularly transparent and gives a great amp like breakup.

Dear Allyn
Dare I ask, Ken Fischer raved about Hotcakes, what does a Hotcake sound like through the amp?
Dear Angel
I tried and OCD several times and to be honest, it just wan't my thing. I didn't find it transparent. I can see how people like it, though I've always been partial to a good Fuzzface.

Re: Rocket Done Tonight
FWIW/IMO/etc, the 100pF bright cap can make the amp a little more finicky about which OD/dist/fuzz pedals sound good with it. I built mine with a 3-position Bright switch (47pf/100pF/OFF) and I'm surprised how little of an effect it has at low-ish volumes...until you try an OD/dist/fuzz pedal...then it makes a noticable difference on the fizzyness. I usually switch between the 47pF/100pF position when not using any OD pedals but go between OFF/47pF with an OD pedal (both cases depend on the volume setting...the higher the volume the higher the Bright setting). So far I think I'm liking my Chandler Tube Driver the most...but it's also my fave with most amps.
ground bus standoff
Allyn, could you post either an ECU of the ground rail standoff alone or in the amp.

Here is some pics of the amp in the cabinet before it ships out. This one goes to a guy in Jersey that has had more than a few real ones.

Re: Rocket Done Tonight
Allyn,
I notice that you used tube sockets that have shield bases for the EL84's. Knowing how you operate, this is probably because KF did it (I have never seen a photo of a real Rocket). Did he use them for a reason, or was it just what he had on hand?
Or was it just what YOU had on hand?

Re: Rocket Done Tonight
Two of the amps I saw had them. I probably won't in the futere. I have great NOS sockets without shield based!
Re: Rocket Done Tonight
That looks great! I bet it even sounds better than it looks!

Re: Rocket Done Tonight
what bias resistor for the higher voltage taps?
Re: Rocket Done Tonight
68 Ohms for the higher tap. Same bypass cap.funkmeblue wrote:what bias resistor for the higher voltage taps?

Re: Rocket Done Tonight
right on, you happen to know those voltages?
