Allied Elec Price increase

I was just on the Allied Electronics page to purchase filter caps for an upcoming EXPRESS build, based on Ron's Material list the cost has more then doubled from $9.69 for a 20uf 450v mallory cap to $20.20 each and the 40uf 450v jumped from $11.92 up to $24.87.

Does anyone know a better place to buy the same cap?

I was looking at that the other week and it put me off to say the least.

Onlinecomponents.com has the 20's for $11.45.... try searching TC75 on Octopart.com

Not much luck with the 40's though but they do have TC79's which are 50uF. They were a bit more than the 20's. Physically, I think they are the same size as the 40's

I did not order any yet so I can't say if they are a good source or not.

the TC78 or 40uf / 450V is back ordered 8 weeks as or today (august 3rd) $14 each

Better jump on anything you want patrts wise NOW that is how much the USD $ has gone down this year. I buy 01 tool steel for custom made wood carving tools the price has jumped for the stock I use most 36" strip x 1/2" from $5.78 to $38.97 each in the last two years and the product is junk now china crap it was US made. look at the price of NOS tubes the price has only gone up x2.
If you can lock in the price for mallory tc78 go for it.

OUCH! Good thing I ordered an extra set for my current -and- next build a bit ago.

What would be a suitable substitute for Mallory's? Spragues used to be ok, but wasn't there a rash of failures the last few months?

Spragues 20uf & 40uf are not USA made anymore I had two Express amps fry the 40uf smoked looked like Jimmi setting his guitar on fire thank god the fuse saved the amp Sparks 3 to 4 inches off the end caps.
also the Spragues sound like mud to me the mallorys are the only way to go for the power supplys if you want a clean sound.
Leo Fender used Mallorys since the 50's and some of the tweed amps are still working untouched. 67plexi.
