Why did Dumble use 12AX7's in the PI?

Why did Dumble use 12AX7's in the PI?

Looking at the dumble schematics is there a reason why Dumble would have used 12AX7's in the PI rather than the 12AT7?

Is it because he wanted to achieve certain plate voltages, or was it availability of the actual tube type?
