VVT Non Hrm w/Gil's mods
Here is a clip of a VVT Amp I built for Robbie Flint.. Steel and Lap Steel player for Alan Jackson's Band Strayhorns.. Been there for some 25 years.. It's Non HRM... Skyliner Stack 100w/ with Gil's values in some spots (THANKS GIL!!!) Just OD no boost....I had to zip it as it's in quicktime.. The recording is a bit crude but you get the Idea.. Robbie loves it and will use it on tour this summer... Hope you like... Don't have any pics although looks like all our other amps...

I love it, great tone and of course great playing. I've seen Jackson maybe 5 times, doesn't strike me as Alan's style, he's more pure old time country, lots of spankin Tele and crying steel. Great songs, and I've never heard another voice that can fill an arena like Jackson can, never a bad note.
Very cool, thx for posting.

Thanks Bob
Yeah I know what you mean.. Robbie sent me the clip the day he got the amp so he was still getting used to the Dumble topology... But I thought the clip was too cool not to post anyway...The clean channel on that amp turned out really well as I used old Fender iron from a 64 Blackface Twin..
I think he will use the clean channel as well.. He said he had a long solo intro thing with only him playing before they do Don't rock the jukebox.. He does bits and pieces of old rock tunes..and one of them was Smoke on the Water so he wanted something with OD... Pretty cool listening to one of your amps being played by a killer player like Robbie playing smoke on the water Slide style through a huge PA in front of thousands..
Alan. sometimes Tours with Brooks and Dunn.. and both Lou and Tony are using our amps now... It's great going to watch guy's that talented ripping through one of your amps...... were Blessed....Not braggin just proud..

AMEN!!!! Funk
All these guy's purchase these amps... There in NO WAY!!!! I can give stuff away...Tony King has bought 4 amps from me and Lou Toomey as bought 4 as well and Robbie 2 amps....Never believed in giving stuff away.. From The Gear Page....
I use it every night on tour with Brooks and Dunn, and have had one rented for me on two major TV shows so I wouldn't be without it, and will do the same on 2 upcoming TV shows. It's the first amp I've played in a long time that inspires you to play. I have the opportunity to play amps that are provided by companies, but I bought this one because it is soo great. I just ordered a second one today.

It's great to hear steel players use these, I'm a huge lindley fan, and play a '35 ricky bakelite myself. I was pitching the idea to one of the guys from Carter one day, as soon as I mentioned "tube amp" dude FLIPPED and read me the rhiot act for 20 minutes, and told me when I come up with a linear mosfet design to come back and see him....I thought to myself "Gee maybe I should just find some steel players that care more about their sound than worrying about getting a teeny bit of exercise moving a tube amp-- ENJOY THAT PEAVEY BRO!"

Probably has more to do with weight.
Lets face it steel players have been using Peavey Session 400/500, Nashville 400 / 1000, Webb's and several other SS amps for YEARS (I still own a Nashville 400 that is a perfectly accceptable steel amp, with the right mod). They want 200+ watt RMS, 15" speaker and for it to weigh 20 pounds
My Mullen D10 weighs about 70 pounds in the case, it takes a Twin in the other hand to offset the weight
But on the serious side, a good steel amp would be an Ampeg SVT with reverb

Re: VVT Non Hrm w/Gil's mods
I did some work for Carter Steel and a few of his customers in Mesquite, TX back in the early 90s. All were Peaveys 400s and TNT's w/minor swap out of Op amps and a few tone stack changes. To each his own, but they loved the Peaveys.
Gary has the right idea, an SVT w/ Reverb.
Hey, sorry for mentioning Hartley's line of amps twice in one post.

That's something.. Robbie replaced his Steel Amp with 2 Steel Kings I think Fender...As he was using a Mesa 400w tube power amp with a preamp..
The Kings had the Mosfets in them last time I talked with him he was not to pleased with the Fenders.... a bit much on the top end..He played his Pedal Steel through the clean channel of the OD I sent and loved the tone plenty of bottom but wasn't quite powerful enough though..Was thinking of a 4 6550's w/SVT Iron might be the ticket for Steel..If these guy's had a clue about how much parts are and time involved they wouldn't throw such a fit..... LOL!!

Re: VVT Non Hrm w/Gil's mods
The problem for any pedal steel player, especially swing players is going to be the C6 neck. That low C is an .070 , this really takes a large amount of low end grunt to make most happy.

Re: VVT Non Hrm w/Gil's mods
We've messed with the idea of doing a Steel amp both Robbie and Brian (Jake Owen) and several others like the Mesa Studio preamp here it is they obviously run the clean channel only. For those interested in going here this is a good starting point.. Combine this with the OD Dumble Non Hrm and I think you have something. Most Steel players are not opposed to having a little snarl at there finger tips especially on the rockier type tunes.. They say no one has built a good OD preamp.. They say there all over the top.. Which makes sence since those Steel pickups are way hotter than guitar pickups..
For kicks I had brian play though one of our earlier 100 w HRM's at a sound check.. He clicked the boost on in OD and was Holy Snonkers!!!
eveybody turned around.. Had to let him use it fo the show...
