Thanks

I read about this months ago and in my free time i did the layout for this mod in the Normal channell.

NOT TESTED

[IMG:405:640]http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m74/ ... NORMAL.jpg[/img]

The main diference with the dave Funk mod is that in my versión the output of the V3 (the half 12ax take from the reverb driver) goes direct to the Phase Inverter. In the original mod, the signal is send to V4B and them to the P.I.
If more gain is needed, send the "X" point to the "Z" pint, instead the other "X" point in the P.I. (The P.I., obvious, is not in my pic  )
This way you have the same gain stages as in the original mod and..... reveb and vibrato in both chanells!!!

1 month ago i was decide to do this mod, but first i wanna try this...

NOT TESTED

Would it be a complete thread hijack to ask for more info on this, now that you've got one very good reply?

I've been doing one like this for awhile; but I always called the "blonde bassman mod." The Bass Channel of the 6G6 and 6G6-A do almost the same thing -- but then throw away all the gain with the worst tone stack ever devised.

The cathode follower reduces the source impedance feeding the tone stack, which reduces the insertion loss of the tone stack. Result: more balls than with the stock blackface circuit. The trick is stealing a hi-mu triode from the reverb driver without wimping out the reverb or compromising the gain. I've tried 12DW7s (which give good gain to the "Normal" channel, but make it hard to dial in good reverb drive). 12AX7s have the same problem in a different way. I finally settled on the 12AT7 which is apparently what Dave Funk did too.

But lately, I've been thinking about trying a 12BZ7 -- this is a nifty tube where each triode approximates the effect of a paralleled 12AX7: 100 mu; plate impedance about 1/2 of a 12AX7; watts, I forget -- not as good as a 12AT7, but better than a single 12AX7 triode.

I like this mod, btw. nice understated drive -- not at all cranky or twisty.

Zenkudo pedal by Tanabe

Post by sidehatch »

Sorry!

I mispelled it.

Its a Tanabe Zenduko. Here's the link to his japanese website:

http://www.tanabe.tv/top/kudou/demo2.html

He's a guy in Japan that makes the pedal. I took it out tonight and played it thru my carr slant 6 on my gig and I have to say I am in heaven!

I used to own a fuchs ODS but I sould it because I didnt like the clean sound. I bought the Carr slant 6 right before I wnet on the Keith Urban tour in 05 and have been playing it as my #1 amp since. I've wanted the dumble sound since and have considered etting a fuchs and a head switcher because every pedal I tried came up close but not there( fulldrive 2,zendrive, direct drive, every keeley pedal, Butler tube driver etc...

Someone told me about this guy in Japan so I emailed him and he made me the pedal. Its steep( $285 shipped) but it IS that sound I have wanted for so long IDEALIZED!

I have played the guitar for a living all of my life (I'm 34) and I am giddy. This pedal puts a smile on my face and isn't a carppy mid boost sounding ts9 clone that sits on top of my sound.

Next week I am going into the studio and I told Toshihiko Tanabe (the maker) that I will record some files for youtube. My pedal is #101 and Im sure that he is going to be famous from this thing.

I opened it up and he "dumbled it" he gooped the curcuit so I cant see the magic in there.

When I get the clips done I'l post them here.

In the meantime you can check out his website even though its in japanese. ITs funny but I just clicked on stuff until I saw something that looked like a contact form and I entered my email address in all fields. I said "please send me a paypal invoice for Zenkudo Pedal". He built it to order and I had it a week later.

My friend said all the top sesison guitarists in japan have one.

I dont mean to sound like Im selling these pedals. I have nothing to gain from them its just I want the secret out on this guy.

As far as the fender mod, Its sounding like Im going to have to get this done!

Does anyone know if this can be done to only the normal channel?

Here's Tanabe's Email for the Zenkudo pedal. tanabe@tanabe.tv

I am sure this guy is going to be the next big pedal guy. There is just something insidde that pedal that others dont have. I played my first gig tonight since I got it on monday and about 4 local guitar guys that are into the tone I liem came out and all 4 are emailing Tanabe to get one. Besides it sounding more dumble like thru my carr slant 6 than my old fuchs it has the coolest Abalone shell top ever. I usually dont care about looks but thatsso unique I had to share. Be looking for some clips for an american guy on youtube. Its hard to tell from the clips he put up on there.

Thanks

Don't want to be a dick or nothin' but had a listen to the demos on this site, didn't sound like a dumble to me, perhaps it's just my ears.
whatever floats your boat i guess.

I agree those clips are not ideal. I thought the same thing when I heard them. I just went out on a limb because a friend of mine heard one in person. I am not usually impressed by a pedal but before that pedal arrived on monday I was going to get another dumble clone and go the head switching route.

Im going to work on getting this guy some good clips. Also, this pedal has a 3 way swith and 4 knobs. I found that it takes tweaking to get that sound. For me the switch has to be on the green setting and the gain and voice amost all the way up.

I am going over my tech's shop this evening and give him a guitar lesson. In return he is going to do this mod to the normal channel on my pro reverb. If its not me he'll put it back while Im there. Im also curious how it interacts with the zenduko pedal.

Thanks!

Do you mean the one Dave Funk used to do (as illustrated in the first schemo)? Yes,that is correct. Yes, it is valid (it won't hurt anything). And it sounds nice. DF was a great tech and builder -- I wonder what he's gotten into now.

Does this mod retain the typical fender clean sound or does moving the tonestack to the cathode follower completely change that sound?
