Transformer questions

Post by Aurora »

An aquaintance of mine have an old crashed ( literally) 50W Marshall, which I can get for cheap.....
OTOH - I see mostly ref's to OTs for Fender Twins an Super Rev's being used in Dumbles.
Are these transformers usable for a 50W Dumble...??
PT possibly OK, I guess, maybe slightly hot -- appx 460V-470V ...???

Sound great with EL34's, you will need a larger resistor in the dropping string to get the Preamp voltages right-

Aren't most Dumbles done with 6L6's?

This is my problem... I've been building electronics all my life, but for guitar amps, I have little experince with the sonic differences in combinations of tubes and transformers....

You see mostly 6L6's but EL34's are a strong second. I have one of each. One advantage of those Marshall chassis' is they tend to be taller than the slant-faced Fenders. You get a little more vertical for boards. Skip

Nope. He did both 6l6 and EL34 in the ODS, and there are at least 2 known examples done with 6v6. IMHO marshall Iron sounds like ASS with 6l6, ymmv......

Yes, I also feel that the marshall iron does not work well with the 6L6.

EL34s work great too with these circuits.

Have fun!
