OK - Now I'm confused, but I thought you said you were seeing 600+VDC on the secondary?
But no matter, you are up and running I guess.
I just finished mine today. Sounds beautiful aftere a reversed secondary was fixed!!!!!!!!!!!!! BTW, I have to add that I really don't get where some say the amp is too bright. I have got everything here, bright and dark. I love this thing!!!!!!!!!!! This site ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THANK YOU TO ALL!!!!!!!!!!!

rooster wrote:, skyboltone, that 600VDC is way too high for the Tone Sluts PT I have here. There must be some measurement mistake or a very bad meter.
I think we're mixing threads and ideas here.
And I was thinking you had edited your thread!
Now you will see about 600 VAC at the secondary of the PT.
I haven't the slightest idea what's happening now. I must hosed something up but I can't find it. What? Somewhere in here were some bad ratios too. A toneslut PT gives you 1.35 under load and a Hammond AO-35 gives you 1.15 under load. There. You sort it out. Then fill me in 'cause I'm lost. I think I was talking to Phil.

skybolt - Are you saying you are having some problems? If you are, you need to find Ron Worley's build PDF file. Whatever you do, skip the 'Kelly90' stuff - it needs to be sorted out. But Ron's file is spot on in so many ways.
If I can help, post a reply. If you are not up and running, you need to be. I am burning in my caps right now. A good as this amp sounds right now, I am still thinking about that fact that the trannies and caps need at least 40 hours to burn in........ You mean this thing will sound BETTER?????

Don't worry SB, believe that rooster got his wires slightly twisted. Believe he got you mixed up with the original thread starter, declan. Declan posted a 620V PT secondary reading (but didn't specify AC or DC).

Thanks Gearhead. That got too confusing for me. Rooster, I'm having no problems with any builds currently. If I do I'll look you up.

declan - Yeah, kinda loud. I am running a Weber Alnico Bluedog and an English made Celestion Greenback in a Chinese built Vox open back 2/12. This seems to work pretty well. I have tried everything I own in that cab, BTW. I liked the Weber ceramic Bluedog and the Weber Alnico Bluedog together, but the greenback was a little quieter and somewhat smoother, too. Eh, I could change that tomorrow but for now it is working pretty well.
Too, FWIW, I remember that KF liked the littel OD pedal from Australia, the Hotcake. Do you know this pedal? Maybe you don't run with ODs but they can make a loud amp a bit more manageable. I think the thing here is that a midrangy OD pedal is not gonna work with the Express - IMO. I would suggest you try a Barber LTD sometime. Its much 'clearer' than a typical TS pedal and would maybe be something that you would like. True, there is nothing like output tube distortion, so carry on with your attenuater plans if it can work for you. Short of 'The Ultimate' branded model at $400+, I have tried them all without any success. Yes. YMMV.
