Dlite confusion...help!

Post by Cygnus X1 »

Is there an off the shelf kit I can buy for the Dlite (with Bass, mid, treb, presence,OD drive and level) that uses an EL34 instead of the 6V6/6L6?

The 18 watt just has a "Tone" knob.
Looking for old heavy metal tone, think early Van Halen.

Thanks! :)

The current Brown Note D'Lite 44 kit is capable of running EL34 tubes.

I think that you have confused 18 watt light with Dlite amp. Completely different animals.

Now I'm looking at the AX84 SEL (single ended lead) project.
It might just give me what I'm looking for.
Gain stages, tone control, and optional KT88, EL34, 6V6, 6L6...

Anyone heard or tried one of these?

Have you seen this? Funk swears by it.

When Funk swears, I listen!

I recall Brandon posting something to the effect that he's received more complements on the Class Act rig than any other (I'm guessing that's pre Bludo-Drive).

What are the PT specs used to drive the Class Act?

I built an SEL for a friend of mine last fall:

http://mcorey.dsl.xmission.com/SEL/index.html

The thing sounds awesome, especially when someone who can really play the guitar (i.e. anyone but me) plays through it. It's a very flexible design with the rhythm/lead switch in there. I used a weber board for the switching and it happened to fit perfectly on two of the turret board mounts.

I don't have any clips of that one, but I voiced it a little brighter than normal for Mike.

Morcey 2... that looks great!

Hammond tranny's, right?
I ordered everything I'll need through Weber (they always fill orders accurately, and provide excellent documentation, and are reasonable).
Except the tranny's. I'm still shopping. That PT is over my stupid cheap budget. I'm thinking of going with Weber's 35 dollar universal SS diode PT.

Why is this amp designed "backwards"?
I'll probably draw it up in Autocad and flip it, to get my brain working correctly, if possible. Power side on the left, pre to the right. It might be an issue getting the pots lined up correctly, though.

I like your idea of putting the power section on a seperate board.
I was thinking of doing the same. I would think this gain monster would be real touchy to noise, so keeping things at a distance seems a brilliant move.

Hmmm, to me that is a pretty typical guitar amp schematic.
Most I have seen are laid out like that.
The actual layout on the eyelet or turret board and chassis is more a factor of whether the chassis is a tube up or tube down design.

I was referring to the layout of the AX84 SEL.
Everything is in reverse!
I'm used to Fender, where looking at the front of the amp, the power section is on the right, pre to the left. The sel is opposite.

Ok gottcha.
I think most amps that mount with the chassis on top of the cab, tubes hanging down ala Fender are this way, no?

Thanks!

The PT is a 270FX, but the OT is a Heyboer from dobermanamps.com

Why is it backwards? I dunno. I didn't do the layout. I've got amps going both directions. My 18-watt and High-Octane both have the input on the right.

The separate boards weren't my idea either. That's just part of the component amp designs over at AX84.com. Cliff Chappell over there did most of the hard work. The fact that the Weber switching board fit exactly on 2 of the turret-board mounting screws was serendipitous. (I've always wanted to use that word.)

Matt.
