I found a 3801 but the cloth wires have faded so much I couldn’t identify the taps. I hooked up the primaries to a variac and did the math. I found the 16 and 4 ohms taps but what is supposed to be the 8ohms tap measures around 1 ohm (triple checked the math, the turn ratio on that tap is 78:1!). What does this indicate? A short?
I wired the OT and moved the NFB wire to the 16ohms tap. The amp sounds good on both 16 and 4ohms taps although it seems to struggle a bit with various pairs of EL34, I tried a pair of 6V6s and the amp sounds great with those (smoother, more stable).
Assuming the 8ohms tap is fried, is it ok to leave the OT in?
