Express Build Pictures

Here is a shot of an Express build that my 10 yr old son and I are building (He now wants to start an amp building company). I reversed the layout so the controls are on the right side of the amp. There are a few things to finish up, then we can double check everything and fire it up. If anyone sees mistakes please let me know. I cannot wait to start on the cabinet. I need to get just the right wood for a "furniture look" so my wife won't mind it being in the living room. Thanks for all the sharing of info on this forum. I greatly appreciate it.

That's a nice looking layout. (Where'd you get the vintage Marshall-style power and standby switches?) I do notice that you're only using 40uF on the main filter. Reason?

Thank you, I picked up 8 of the Marshall style switches a while back and a few LCR 50/50 cans for a Marshall build I was planning, which I never got around to. I used one of 50/50 cans for the main filter to save some money.

Very nice. The only thing I would mention is the black heater wire laying on top of the v1a's cathode wire at the socket. I would swing it to the left a tad to make it perpendicular instead of parallel to the cathode wire. This will reduce the chance of heater hum coupling on to the cathode wire.

Good catch, I will move it. I appreciate the advice. I've looked at this amp so much, it starts to all run together.

Presumably the can cap is under the board. If you don't mind I'll pinch your PS layout for my express. Really clean build hope mine looks as good.

Hey Mike, nice you've got your son involved - my daughter used to help me put PC's together when she was that age.

My boy and I are pretty tight, I want to do as much with him as I can while he still thinks Dad is cool. Those days are short. He is fastly realizing I'm not. He told me the other day I reminded him of Tim Allen, I thought it was a compliment for about a second.

Thanks for the compliment. You are correct, the cap can is under the board. Someone wanting to use part of my layout, I take that as a great compliment. I will post more pictures as I progress.

Looks awefully good Trigger. Now for all those nasty fiddley bits like the power cord and the dang feedback wiring to the presence pot. Don't change anything now but keep in mind your speaker wires right next to the fuse. That's an isolated AC wire for all intents and purposes. I can't tell you it will hum but I'd look there if it does hum.

Thanks Dan, I pushed the wires down away from the fuse, I did not even think of that. I have it all finished up now. I did have a pot for a PPIMV that I was going to install, but after the thread on how they just don't work that well in an Express I put a pot in for a cut control to play around with later. I may try the PPIMV later for tinkering, I just wanted to hear this thing like it supposed to sound like before changing anything.
