I am just finishing up my first amp kit build, a Ceriatone Liverpool with ToneSlut transformers. I’m using the 260 tap on the PT & the 5200 Ohm tap on the OT, what I believe is correct for a Liverpool. This leaves the 300V, 6600 Ohm & 5V taps unused. I currently have them capped with shrink-wrap and coiled/tie-wrapped. Is it a bad idea to leave them this way? It would look cleaner if they were cut off short and capped but I’m unclear on whether or not I’d ever use them in the Liverpool , would I? I think I’ve read about using the 6600 Ohm tap is an option, the 300V too? As you can probably tell, I’m reading the forums & carefully following the layout but don’t have much knowledge or experience pertaining to amplifier building.
So…
Will I ever need the 300V & 6600 Ohm taps in the Liverpool?
If not, will leaving them long and somewhat neatly coiled in the chassis have potential negative effects?
If the correct approach is to cut them off, how short is short enough & is there a desirable way to cap/terminate them?
For those familiar with the Ceriatone Liverpool layout, I’m attempting to follow Paul Ruby’s initial power-up suggestions. I don’t know for sure, but suspect that the Ceriatone Liverpool does not have a bleeder resistor. If that is correct I’ll need to temporarily install one to accurately follow Paul’s instructions. So, and this should demonstrate the full extent of my ignorance, the 100k 2W bleeder resistor should be soldered between the first filter cap, B+ to ground… how can I identify that cap? Then I’ll connect the + side of the cap to ground?

There should be no downside to leaving them. You never know when you might regret shortening them, but you can shorten them all you want if you need to.kineteks wrote: ... I currently have them capped with shrink-wrap and coiled/tie-wrapped. Is it a bad idea to leave them this way?
Is that 220K 2W resistor connected between the 47uF cap and mains ground not your bleeder resistorkineteks wrote: (I) suspect that the Ceriatone Liverpool does not have a bleeder resistor...

I think Moose mentioned that some people open up the end bell of the tranny and coil the unused leads inside. Should be fine as long as you've got them capped off properly.kineteks wrote:I currently have them capped with shrink-wrap and coiled/tie-wrapped. Is it a bad idea to leave them this way? I'm with the good Dr. on not shortening wires you might need later. Maybe you'll happen upon a pristine Blackburn Mullard GZ34 someday. You might want those 5V taps then.
Re: ToneSlut extra taps...
Dohhh! I guess it could be a bleeder resistor. Good thing I have a small ego. I'll leave the wires long, much thanks....

Re: ToneSlut extra taps...
Ginger uses the 6600. Liverpool. If you look at the curves, really about 4400 would be book on 4 EL-84s at 310 volts. I wouldn't cut nothin off. Coil them on top of the chassis, and put spiral wrap around them for protection.kineteks wrote:I am just finishing up my first amp kit build, a Ceriatone Liverpool with ToneSlut transformers. Just a thought. I hear you though on the neat and tidy. Get everyting ironed out and tweaked to where you're happy then cut them off guess. Coiling the short cuts in the end bell sounds good to me.

I coiled mine under the PS board and was able to keep it reasonably tidy.skyboltone wrote: ... I hear you though on the neat and tidy...

Re: ToneSlut extra taps...
...is the 260 / 5200 combination correct for the Liverpool?
Can any combination of the 260/300 & 5200/6600 taps be used or will certain combinations require resistor or other changes from the standard Ceriatone spec?

Re: ToneSlut extra taps...
I think you want to stick to the 260 V on the PT, but you can try the 5200 and 6600 on the OT and see which you like best. As Dan said, Ginger used the 6600 tap.kineteks wrote: ...Can any combination of the 260/300 & 5200/6600 taps be used ...
