Reverb not working no matter what I try. Advice?
Hey everyone. I'm running out of ideas here. My Amplified Nation Wonderland amp has been having reverb problems for a while now. The reverb used to be weak but now it isn't even working at all.
I took it to a tech. He went over everything inside, reflowed etc. Said everything inside looked good. The reverb transformer and all the tubes tested good, so he suggested I try a new tank. Put in a new tank matching the part number of the old one. Still no reverb. To add what the tech noted, there's signal going into the tank but not out for some reason.
Not really sure what else I can do here. I tried contacting the builder of the amp weeks ago but I have not gotten a response. Has anyone ran into similar problems before? Any advice is very appreciated. Thanks.

turn your reverb knob all the way down. rca cable from reverb send to reverb return. now turn your amp on and play: as you turn up the reverb knob does it sound like a really loud treble booster? if so your reverb send and return are working and the problem is external to the amp (tank or rca cable. try different rca cables first to rule them out)
i wouldn't imagine you have a schematic?

Yes, as I turn the reverb up it sounds like a treble booster. That's the perfect description. I'll get my hands on a new rca cable and try that out. Thanks much!thetragichero wrote: ↑Wed Sep 07, 2022 1:22 am turn your reverb knob all the way down. rca cable from reverb send to reverb return. now turn your amp on and play: as you turn up the reverb knob does it sound like a really loud treble booster? if so your reverb send and return are working and the problem is external to the amp (tank or rca cable. try different rca cables first to rule them out)

If the recovery side of the reverb circuit is working as it should ( the cable that plugs into the output side of the pan) then with the reverb full up if you touch the center end of a known hood RCA cable plugged in there then you should hear a pretty strong deep buzz, almost like what you get from touching the end of your guitar cable at lower playing volumes.
If this test good then plug the cable back into the output side of the pan.
If the pan is good on that side and you touch the springs in it you should hear tons of noise.
PS.
Did you get this amp new?
I am really starting to think that if you did not that the pan you got with was the wrong one anyway which is why replacing it got you nowhere.

Was this ever resolved ?? Inquiring minds want to know

I did not get the amp new so it's possible the tank was already switched out. The tech tried to get the specs of the reverb transformer to no avail. We also tried emailing the amp builder to ask but did not get a response. I tried a new RCA cable but that didn't work either. Troubleshooting is ongoing unfortunately.Stevem wrote: ↑Wed Sep 07, 2022 12:25 pm If the recovery side of the reverb circuit is working as it should ( the cable that plugs into the output side of the pan) then with the reverb full up if you touch the center end of a known hood RCA cable plugged in there then you should hear a pretty strong deep buzz, almost like what you get from touching the end of your guitar cable at lower playing volumes.

Still looking for solutions unfortunately. A new RCA cable did not work. I emailed Taylor again for a quote to see if perhaps I could send him the chassis to look at.

Where do you live? Someone on this site may be close and be able to help.

Been testing some reverb signal stuff. When you move the springs in the tank itself, the sounds of the springs can be heard through the amplifier. But when you actually play something, there's no reverb on the guitar signal. Could that be an issue on the "out" side of the reverb circuit?

If your hearing noise when you touch those springs then the output side of the tank is working ( to some extent ) which then means so is the reverb recovery amp within the whole amp.
This noise should be very loud if the reverb is turned up all the way and if you touch the tip of that rca cable you should hear a loud buzz also.
If you have both of these taking place then my best guess is that you have the wrong reverb tank there.
Since you have a circuit there that uses a reverb drive transformer a test out is easy.
It’s very likely a Fender type transformer which is made to drive a 8 ohm input pan,
What this all means is that if you hook up a 8 ohm speaker to the end of the cable that feeds the input end of the tank then you end up having a 1 watt guitar amp and can then confirm that the drive side of the whole reverb circuit is also working correctly.
These are simple circuits and should not be a problem for a tech who knows what he is doing to figure out.

If you touch the two reverb cable tips together (instead of the pan), the reverb knob should act like a boost.
If you have a signal increase this way, then you know the send and return work. Then the issue may be a bad or incorrect pan.
My shop is in NJ if you are nearby...this should be a quick fix really.

You might also try sending Taylor a DM on Instagram. He's usually pretty responsive. Never know if an email gets blocked as spam randomly....
This is the type.of reverb tank the Wonderland should have:

Hey there. So, I tried this method. The reverb does act as a boost when I touch the two RCA ends together. Could it really just be the reverb pan? I've tried three different ones so far. Two were brand new. None of them worked. I tried a 9AB3C1B, a 4AB3C1B, and I think a 9AB2C1B. Thanks for your ongoing help, I do appreciate it. Wish I could stop by your shop but I'm located in WA.FUCHSAUDIO wrote: ↑Fri Sep 16, 2022 5:42 pm If you touch the two reverb cable tips together (instead of the pan), the reverb knob should act like a boost.

Did you buy the same pan type and number that you took out ?NWForest wrote: ↑Sat Sep 24, 2022 1:21 amHey there. So, I tried this method. Interesting the manufacturer hasn't chimed-in. I guess I shoulda responded to the e-mails begging for reverb design help...

I have offered the OP free service on this amp.
Not sure why he doesn’t want to send it in?
