choke vs replacement resistor

Post by phsyconoodler »

i was wondering why everyone seems to use the resistor instead of a choke. The cost for a choke is minimal and the benefits of a choke are well known.
Just curious,i use the resistor and it works ok,but I think a choke would tighten up the bottom end.
Crystal latice or vacuum, that is the question.

The resistor gives it a raw quality. It is hard to put it in words but it adds a little bite. Some songs call for that, others don't.

I have a 2- 6L6, a 4- 6L6 and 2- 6V6 amps, all with chokes. I don't play very loud when playing with a band, but if I go for a clean chord and it comes out fuzzy I'm not happy.
