Thank you Mark. The OPT is a Hammond 1650N - A very beefy 60 Watt monster. The Power Tranny is an old Stancor...

They are good iron but maybe a bit overkill for this amp. I thought about trying some 6550's but I really don't need that kind of power...

I am using a set of old Sylvania 6L6GC's right now. I do have a set of black base RCA's that I might pop in there once I'm really content that it's safe to do so.

Voltages - What do you suggest

Post by RJ Guitars »

Hello Amp Gurus,

I just got my dropping string resistors and put them in... I have a bit of variation and still off the mark of the magic 200v on v1 & v2. I have more resistor values available, should I adjust things more?? what do you suggest?

rj

3.3K / 20K / 2.2K

185 - v1a
191 - v1b

212 - v2a
221 - v2b

280 - v3a
302 - v3b

444 - v4/v5

2k2/22k/2k2 and if V1 has 285 it's a bad tube.

Voltage confusion - help please

Post by RJ Guitars »

heisthl wrote:2k2/22k/2k2...
Maybe there isn't consensus on the forum, but I'm a little confused...

I pulled out the 2K2 / 22K / 2k2 set to make some suggested voltage adjustments.... attempting to get 200V on v1 & v2 and just under 300 on v3.

That's the driver for the 3k3 / 20k / 2K2 resistor combination.

So the confusion for me is that I'm not sure if the magic is in the resistor values or the end voltages...

Do I want to hit 200v for both sides of v1 and v2 and approx. 295 for both sides of v3, or is there something else that is more significant than the ultimate voltages I achieve??

I'd be curious if the various gurus could give some of the logic behind the resistor choices...

thanks,

rj

I have no idea where the "magic" resides but I used to strive for 200 on V1 and 210 on V2 until I realized the best sounding builds I've done used this 2k2/22k/2k2 string and had 180 to 190(never over 202) on V1 and 190 to 200(never over 210) on V2 (with 220k/150k plates) and 285 to 300 on V3. Whenever I re-encounter an early build it's the first thing I change.
I've never had to go below 150K on the FET simulator resistor to achieve this but a lot of the time I have Reverb or a loop pulling on B+2 or B+3, otherwise I might go a little lower on the simulation resistor (but not below 100K). YMMV and JMHO

Do you have 220K/150K plate resistors on V1 and V2?

I'll have to measure my voltages again on my amp but I think I was pretty close. Maybe a touch too high on V1.

This is a D'Lite 44 kit with the 325-0-325 PT.

Structo,

What output transformer do they supply with the kit? Any idea what brand/model?

For that matter, anyone know what brand/model they supply for the D'Lite 22?

Just doing a sanity check. I built a D'Lite 22 but sourced my own parts.

I believe it is a Hayboer HTS-8816EX.

325 V secondary taps @300 mA, center tapped (325v-0-50v-325v)

6.3V center tapped @ 7A (3.15v-0-3.15v)

5V & 6.3V @ 3 A (5v-6.3v-0)

50V bias tap

I think they supply it with both the 22 and 44 now.

Wow - 300ma that's bigger than a Bassman Transformer

Thanks, Structo. Actually, I was wondering about the output transformer (OT) not the power trans. Sorry for the confusion ;)
