having chassis made

I'm getting a 19x8x2.5 chassis with 0.125" aluminum, .5" tabs for mounting bolts on the long sides (maybe too much but they said it'd be hard to bend smaller in that thickness with their equipment. It'll be welded and everything and they're only going to charge me the minimum $20 work order.

I should have it by Friday and will post pics then.

Even when it's done it'll be no funk chassis - once I get past the first build or two I'd love to use one of his, but this is a great cheap option for now...

You might want to reconsider that thickness.If you want your pots to be able to go through the chassis with enough length to get the nuts on,you shouldn't be using any thicker than .090" thickness of aluminum.If you want a faceplate on top of that thick chassis,you will find the nuts won't go on.
I use .080" aluminum chassis and when welded,are plenty strong.

I see your point, for sure. I do have the option to go thinner. Can I get away with 0.1? I guess 0.9 is fine as long as it'll take the Twin iron I've got. I wasn't really planning on faceplates, so would .125 work ok?

I used .093 for my chassis and it seems plenty stout.... check out the size of my transformers... I don't get any flex.

BTW $20.00 is a terrific price for a chassis.

I agree, though lots of drilling stands between me and a usable chassis. I could do channel for under ten but I figured I'd probably want sides... Is it worth having a top made too? Thickness on that? I figure I could use the handle mounting to hold it to the head cab.

Foil and contact cement is good enough for the top shielding or lightweight tin stapled down. The old Fenders used metal window screen and staples.

Ahhh... a case of just enough knowledge to be dangerous. I knew your chassis was .125 but forgot about the faceplate issue.

So it turns out that this guy really misrepresented the situation. The chassis would cost me 70 bucks at least, blank. Does anyone know someone that can get them done for less than that? I just need a blank 19x8x2.5 chassis at 0.09" thickness.

That's about what I paid. Tell them to leave off the grinding. Just tack weld the corners and you'll clean up the edges should take a little off with a pro shop.

Find another shop.I have my chassis made for 50 bucks each in Canada and they supply the materials and tig weld them.They turn out exactly as I want.
