opinions on shielding OD and OD Level

Post by ampedup »

what's the consenses, do all connections need to be shielded on both pots. right now i just have the OD center connection shielded. if i had a scope i could check for oscillations but i don't.

The addition of the other shielded runs is more than just for noise/oscillation - it also takes away some extreme high end due to capacitance losses. I've done it both ways and it always sounds better with 4 shielded cables in the OD section.

i pulled out the shielding on my master volume last nite just to see if i could hear a difference, it sounded brighter without, not sure it may have added some fizziness at high gain settings so i might try partially shielding the run(just where it's close to other wires). i have the iron sounds fx loop so the master vol run is long. i guess i'll try shielding the rest of the OD section too.

I just added the Ironsounds loop as well and I ran RG-174 from the master wiper to the loop board and from the PI input to the board.
Right now I have the leg 3 of the master pot unshielded.
I have leg 3 of the level pot shielded and the wiper of the drive pot shielded.

this is what i settled on, i unshielded part of the run to the master vol and added shielding to the OD and OD level. the amp sounds strong and i can't hear any loss of high end.

i was just playing with the OD trimmer, can anyone tell me what is the difference between changing the trim and changing the OD knob?
