Just finish Express w/ tube recto

Post by jlatrace »

I just fired up my Express build using the Franchesca schematic on this site with parts I had laying around. It sounds as you would expect, great.

For those interested I changed a few values to make it work as follows:
I used 50UF on the first and second stage filters. I also had to tweak the bias dropping resistor to 270k to get me appropriate bias range.

I used a hammod organ reverb PT and a JTM style OT, both I had laying arouund. I put the amp in an extra marhsall style chassis and am using a 18 watt combo cabnet. I know that may not be standard, but it sounds great. I used a grounding scheme that is very similar to the one on the Hoffman site, but I borrowed some from Kevin O'Conner's books. Otherwise, it's just as on this site's schematic.

The amp is quiet, no hum, and screams at about "4-5" on the volume. Controlled feedback at "5" and above. Bright, but not too much, probably the open back cabinet.

Thanks for all the help from those on this site. :D

I's simply a ground buss for the pre-amp through the phase inverter grounded at the input jaclks combined with grounding the recto and power tube cathodes and OT at the PT bolt.

Interesting, I was wondering when someone was gonna try that! Are you using a 5AR4/GZ34?
