How close do you think you could come with a JCM800 and a Mesa esc tranny if you changed the input bypass to a fender style? Or a SLO w/ fender input and a Mesa esc tranny?

None of them will come close.

If you want to do some tests on pre-shaping the frequencies, install an equalizer between your guitar and the input of the amplifier.
But be aware that it will be just that, not the Mesa Boogie SimulClass MKIV in a box.

The MkIV is a multi channel, multi mode amp. You need to clarify / specify what settings, modes etc you’re enquiring about.

Please define " close " because tone and play feel to me are nearly two separate things !

You will never get the feel of a simulclass Mesa with any other output stage once a certain volume level is reached.
