2020 Monkeymatic Mixcube
I'm building a mono monitor for mixing music, like the Auratone. I have 4", 100w Neo speaker pulled from a Galaxy Audio Hot Spot, and I'm building the cube out of 3/4" walnut. Finished dimensions are 6.75 x 6.75 x 5.5".
First hurdle: how do I carve a perfect 4.1875" hole in the center of the "baffle"? For guitar speakers, I usually rough it out with my jig saw. But for something this small and pretty, that won't be up to snuff.
Hmm, I have a luthier friend with a CNC...I'll ask.

Ok, my friend is cutting it with CNC. Still interested in DIY approach though.

Do you have a router?
For a speaker that small, drill a hole in the baseplate of your router and us the same drill bit as the center pin. Thats how I do it. Make a couple passes of increasing depth.

It looks like we have the same tablesaw: circa 70’s craftsman 10” belt drive... I finally gave up on the rip fence that I had to pound with my fist to get to move, and put a shopfox fence on it. Big improvement!

Yard sale, $25! Not a precision tool, but reasonably close.JazzGuitarGimp wrote: ↑Mon Jul 20, 2020 1:40 am It looks like we have the same tablesaw: circa 70’s craftsman 10” belt drive... Sounds good, but I don't even have a system for clamping the work piece. I just ordered some bench dogs.

Can't you use a copying bit?
It might be easier to drill a hole in a fine board, having it sanded as needed, and then copy the hole - once you're satisfied - on the real thing.

The hole came out perfect. #CNClust
Glued and not screwed. Let's see you get out of this one, Batman.

BTW, you can see "JOE DANN" etched into the rear of that fine Realistic amplifier (and later scratched out by me, with "LYON" added). That was my grandfather, who was a communications spy in WWII, and worked for Lockheed many years, and got me started in electronics.

Great job and a very cool project!

For perfect speaker holes from 4" to 15" look into a rotozip. Works amazing and very affordable
