Missing Files, Please Help

Post by dorrisant »

We could use everyone's help to recover missing files, drawings etc.that anyone knows of. Looks like Phil needs a link and direction to exactly where the dead links are. Then, maybe someone has a copy of what should be there and share it so it can be replaced. I realize that some things have been deleted on purpose and are likely gone forever. There are quite a lot of these files that may be archived at sites like the Wayback Machine:

https://archive.org/web/

I have found several files still exist this way, but we really need a central location to organize that info and get it back to it where it is supposed to be. Sorry if this creates to much work for you Phil.

Maybe we could use a format like this...
Someone who finds the dead link could post its location. Hopefully it can be determined by the context which drawing, etc. should be at the end of that link. Whoever has a useable replacement could quote the original dead link and attach a file in the response. If you can find the file quickly in an archive on your hard drive, go ahead and post it along with the link that needs to be fixed. That way Phil can get a bit of help from this community to fill in the gaps that have been lost throughout the years.

I'll go first...

I found some missing Dumble layouts here:

Second post down, from Tom. Three out of the six links are dead... the 1st, 3rd and 4th links in that post are dead. Phil has recently labeled them this way. With just a quick glance I can see that there are actually quite a few others on that page.

Would anyone care to help?

In the dark, shady times some years ago when the future of our beloved ampgarage was not so certain, I did a crawling tool that automatically downloaded every attachment (that was available/not dead at the time), however, I would need the file names to send over the files, if these were there at the time (didn't think the ids will be needed or any other cataloging info:/ ).

I don't know if the db stores the filename if the attachement is 'gone' I'm guessing the row is missing, it's more of a 'if you read the post, and understand the context, you might know the file that's missing' type thing...

Seems right, if it doesn't display, then it's not there probably :/

Not sure if it's worth checking it, though - there's a table in phpBB, called phpbb_attachments where all file attachment data is stored.
If you are able to export the contents of this table - in whatever machine-readable format and send it over, I can verify whether the id still exists in the table and what the file name is/was so you don't have to do it all yourself, I guess.

I know how the db structure is setup. I just did a double check on what I thought to be the case. The row with a known good image shows the physical file name and the post it was linked to initially etc. the row for the missing images doesn't exist. Someone deleted them on purpose, whoever initially posted them. Either that, or somehow they asked for someone to do so.

As my original theory went, if we find the files, and know they are 'right' we can re-upload them and re-link them.
