a bit strange question about the reverb

Post by alkuz1961 »

Hello everyone,
Perhaps by chance there is someone here, who have anyone experience repairing reverb tank? I want to find out how many turns are located in the driver coil. I have a tank, which I want to use, but it turned out that the driver coil has a resistance of 150 ohms, but I need to use 8 ohm.
I have repaired various reverbs and restored broken leashes many times. But I didn't have to fix the coils. I know how to disassemble and assemble the mounting parts of the tank, and I can wind a new coil for this, But I need to know the number of turns and the size of the wire.
I would appreciate any information about this.

8 Ohm has 124 turns, but I don't know the wire gauge.

Thank you very much! This is a good start! I have another reverb, and I can look at the diameter of the wire in it without unwinding the coil

I wound a new winding and it works as I expected. I used 0.22 mm wire (31awg)
Thank you again !!

If this tank repair is not to be done in regards to keeping a vintage amp vintage, then I can't see how the time spent to rewind that coil is worth not getting a new pan for under there normal 35 buck cost!

a. to learn
b. because new stock reverb pans are all garbage right now and fail at an atrociously high rate :)

but that's just my guess.

The problem is not the price of the tank. It's just that they're not on sale in the place where I live, not at all. The choice is between 15 minutes to wind the coil, or three/four weeks of waiting for international delivery.
