Hello,
I recently had to replace our whole house heating system. Among the things to be taken away was a switch box for a radiant heat system. I kept the box which was made of heavy steel. I have previously stripped out an Akai M-8 RtR and had an extra transformer on hand, some tube sockets, volume knobs and jacks. So, I stripped out the switch box guts and made a tube preamp. I love the sound of the EF86 which is also part of the Akai setup anyway. And, I needed a tube preamp for plugging directly into my DAW. At present it has only the EF86 in it but it is wired up for adding a 12A** to it. When I add the next tube I will install a DPDT switch to select either the EF86 or the 12A**. Check it out in this Youtube if you wish. Was fun to reuse scavenged parts to make something useful.
