When i built for ELECTRIC AMP ( Matamp/Orange thingy) the OT leads would FLIPPIN OSCILLATE if NOT bound tightly to chassis, it was NUTS..drove me bats, proving that there IS a relationship for wires and chassis even if you can`t see it!!
So how do you feel about braiding the OT primarys? secondarys?

OT secondaries: yes.
OT primaries: yes but do NOT include the center tap wire in the twist! This would screw up the tone big time. I made that mistake once.

I've transplanted Dumble type ckts into 3 different Peavey hybrids, the 80's amps that have SS preamps and tube power amps. The first one was UL output with 2x6L6 putting out a rated 65 watts.

On all of these amps the OT primaries AND secondaries are twisted together right to where they enter the PCB. The first power up was the most hidious sound I've heard from a tube amp in my life, even injecting a sine wave at the PI.

Once I untwisted the OT wires it sounded great, amazing actually. On the other I untwisted the wires as I was pulling the PCB's out, step 1.

Bob,

Did you twist both the primaries and the secondaries in the same twist? What was the tone like?

The center tap included twist of the primaries resulted in an amp that was very nasal, had no highs, made all the guitars played through sound the same and was very unmusical. Tube changes had no effect either. And the culprit is very difficult to find if you don't know what you have to look for.

Cheers DBM
