Marshall or Fender transformers?

Post by ryanf »

I am starting my 50 watt ODS, and my primary goal is to get a good overdrive, so I plan on using El34s. However, I would like to go to 6l6s as well so I was wondering, which type of transformers (both output and power) would best suit this purpose? Will there be a major difference or is a transformer pretty much a transformer?

As always, thanks in advance!

In My Experience, Fender style OT sounds fine with EL34, but Marshall Style doesn't work well with 6L6.

I have a 50W OT that is designed to work well with both, if you want one send me a PM.

As far as the PT you'll want something that doesnt make too much B+ for 6L6, but with enough heater current for EL34. I think you'd be fine with a Bassman PT or a Marshall PT that makes 465 volts under load or less.
