I was underwhelmed by the presentation - I guess as I wanted to be amazed and was not. It's a $99 product that thinks for you and 'learns' for you and whats left for you to do except continue to swim on the surface of your existence whilst believing you're creating art.
I believe when AI actually develops it's own version of music we won't recognize it as such.
Maybe I'm just a sour old man once again yelling at clouds...
It's a tool, like anything else. I love the virtual drummer in Apple's Logic. Choose a style, personality, fills, plus other paramaters. Then, when the track is close to what I want, I can convert to MIDI notes and make whatever adjustments I want.
I build and repair tube amps. http://amps.monkeymatic.com
agreed. I think that the apple loops are real, though, played by someone into a midi drumset or something like that, or at least sequenced by a person to known useful beats/patterns that fit.
I've played with those, as well as those in cubase etc. they're worth it imo as well.
the music created here, otoh was bad... really bad
I did google it, and it took me some time to find ANYTHING explaining how they created the sounds, until I found this article about the launch of the app:
One of the key new features of the last release of Logic Pro X was the Drummer track. This track intelligently generates convincing acoustic drum tracks using a variety of sounds recorded by real drummers.
from macworld, which should be a decent reference, I hope. I think the software does some cool things with all these individually sampled sounds etc. to make it super easy to morph the sounds you're creating, but I gave up on logic a long time ago after I paid 1000$ for logic pro and then 3 months later they released logic pro X that was crippled comparatively for 299$ and gave me no 'upgrade option' That and my 2 year 1 month old macbook pro that had just lost the extended applecare by one month had a known fault with the motherboard and they refused to repair it without me paying 900$ for the repair. I stopped all apple purchases after that debacle.
