Heartless bastards. Just wait until I'm playing my downtuned, balalaika rhythm, and then I switch to dombyra for the middle eight, and then to tenor saung for the haunting extro.

Re: Slipping farther away from the light...
Lol not all of them, just most. I only ever use one at a time, and tend to stick to 3 lately, so I'm trying to decide. I really love the Tweedle Dee, the AC30/4 and am pretty fond of #124. I may actually tweak that one anyway once I get it profiled and change it out to other formats like HRM, or the like, and the profile each of those as wellnorburybrook wrote: ↑Mon Dec 31, 2018 10:59 amnow that's fighting talk.....pompeiisneaks wrote: ↑Sun Dec 30, 2018 6:23 pm Yeah, one thing I plan on doing eventually (I keep never having time because I can't stop playing the damn kemper) is to profile my Dumble, Tweedle Dee, Vox AC30/4, Gibson EH-185 and Liverpool before probably selling most of them. That could be an interesting way to evaluate amp tweaks, profile each change so you can A/B/C the snapshots instantaneously and not have to rely on sonic memory so much.

Ok, you man-buns... sloberfest is over.. back to soldering.

Oh no solid states amps and Kempers!
I am sure this is a nightmare and I will wake up soon!
On a brighter note Happy New Year's eve everyone!
Cheers

I hear so many people love the Kemper amps. How many profiles do you have to make to capture the nuances of a particular amp?
Yours Sincerely

Re: Slipping farther away from the light...
I think it can be a ton, like 10-12. There tend to be clean, clean -, clean+, pushed, pushed -, pushed +, driven, driven- driven + (the + and - I'm guessing means a little low drive/push/clean, or a bit extra drive/push/clean) and then they also often have some with different pickups humbucker, p90, single coil, as well as different mic's used in the cab and some are DI w/o cab so you can either use it with your own power amp that creates the cab tone, or use other cabinets that you have in the system.
It's pretty crazy. I tend, instead, to look for a specific tone I want, and just pick those. I've even got a Roland JC-120 sound that's just incredible.

I wouldn't be too bothered
Eventually, everyone returns on the right path.
I have had a bunch of Boss GT series and Line 6 stuff through the years and tried it all - 4 cable methods, direct outs, USB, cab sims and what not. Typically, end up selling em all and plugging my Stratobastard straight into the good ole tube greatness. A bunch of friends went the Kemper road only to sell it a year or so later. I played the Kemper - it is darn close, but it does not feel the same to me and fiddling with the knobs doesn't react the same, plus that I don't need 1000s of good enough tones, I need few great ones
All of these make much more sense for the regularly gigging musician, but since I am not for a long time already, I am enjoying the tubes mojo and simplicity.
To each its own, I guess. Enjoy your new toys

That's the most succinct summary of what's wrong with tube amp simulators I've seen. No doubt the other advantages are real (low weight, fewer pieces of gear to haul around or to buy and maintain), and may outweigh the lost subtleties of a real tube amp for some users and applications. Many similar things have come and gone, we'll see in time if this one sticks.

After seeing the post here about Friedman BE100 PCBs, I tried the Placater models (BE100) on my Line 6 Helix. Wonderful in all kinds of ways. Very high gain, but clean up remarkably well with volume knob. Blinked my eyes and 60 minutes had gone by.
Considering turning my Fender HRD carcass into a BE50.

Re: Slipping farther away from the light...
I think this may be part of what is amazing here, I've also tried amp modeling in the past and it obviously was 'off' a tiny bit, thus why I got into building tube amps. I've built quite a few now, and have a pretty strong understanding of the basics of why tubes sound so amazing. I've been playing the kemper now non stop over a month and have played more this month than I have in the last few years combined. Yes there are 13k amps you can pick from in the community free pile, and there are hundreds on mine right now. I still only periodically go finding new tones and mostly play the selection of plexi's, fenders, and Vox'es that I've found and sound outstanding to me. I've got a list of maybe 15 favorites that, to me, sound like the real thing, and I love playing them.martin manning wrote: ↑Mon Jan 14, 2019 11:08 amThat's the most succinct summary of what's wrong with tube amp simulators I've seen. Take the blue pill.
As we all hear differently, and have differing tonal goals and tolerances, anything that will satisfy that itch and provide the tonal nirvana that drives inspired playing is valid. For many of us that means several, or dozens, of amps. For some the simulations are plenty close enough. There are many benefits of such a simacralum. I need the amp to respond like a tube amp, not just sound mostly like one. But i'm a tube snob, biased in this matter. I'm not going to use one, but i'd think better of it if it had a tube in it, even at a retardedly low voltage.
