I am building a Supro inspired amp. I have an original 1600 Supreme, a rats nest chock full of ceramic disks. I have never used ceramics in a build other than small ones in tone stacks, bright caps and so on. I remember seeing a scope trace showing quite a bit of hysteresis with ceramics. Any recomendations on these, pro or con? Brand, types? What's been the experince with Supro type circuits with different cap types?
I also notice almost all Supros have 10uf on the screen part of the power supply, some with a 1K feeding it, occasionally a 2K. I read the lowish cap value was to protect the screens of the 6973, but I suspect it is more about screen compression. Thoughts?

Re: Supro build and cermaic caps or?
Sluckey seems to be the supro expert, maybe he'll have some input, but basically the ceramics were something I was scared off of somewhere for naught. Yes crappy ceramics can sound crappy, but so long as you get X5F ceramics they're perfectly fine for audio path work. I bought some Vishay ones off of mouser that were the ducks guts.
Something kinda like this:

that's just a random 330pF one I found in searching, but that's the series etc.

I'm not a Supro expert. I built a Supro S-6424 but did not use any ceramic. I used Xicon chicklets and M-150s because I had them. It works fine. I suspect ceramic caps had more to do with price point rather than some secret mojo. I don't have anything against ceramics. Tons were used in the '60s.

Xtian also built this amp so he's an expert too!

Yeah, only built one so far, so, expert now.
Yeah, only built one so far, so, expert now. You can check my component choices in my build thread: https://ampgarage.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=31639
but I mostly used what I had on hand already.
Still really pleased with this amp!

Re: Supro build and cermaic caps or?
I built a few Supro Thunderbolt clones (using original Valco 5k OTs from Wards Airline carcass's) and used Vishay/Cera-mite 564R ceramics throughout...stuck w/ original filtering scheme. We called them Thunderchickens. A friend of mine has them as says 'they are best sounding JTM45s he ever heard'
