Re: New build- Tweedle Dee
Looks outstanding! I have done some tolexing and it isn't an easy chore. Mine end up looking way worse than that

Re: New build- Tweedle Dee
thanks guys. I'm working on a speaker cab at the moment to match.
Waiting for some black piping to come as I didn't have enough. Might not have enough brown tolex either so it may have cream sides, i'll have to see when I do proper measurements tomorrow.

Looks great, Just realized we have both gone for the string piping around the cab in the same way, I will send you a picture of mine once done, I have used real tweed with my logo recessed.
Tolex job looks great

Re: New build- Tweedle Dee
thanks Mike,
I'm working on a cabinet at the moment but have run out of tolex so had to order some more....Doh!!! postage coasts and all that.
I though about tweed but decided to go my own way...as I do
should have a delivery by the end of the week and I'll post some pics then.
I've got an Eminence speaker I can drop stright in but I'm thinking of getting a Celestion Classic lead 80, my favorite speaker.

Cool, let me know about the Celestion, Thinking of trying one out too, or maybe something alnico, like the Cream Alnico or Fane A60

Re: New build- Tweedle Dee
I've got a cream alnico in the second gen combo and it's great so i'm sure it would work with the deluxe. I've also played mine through my 2x12 Jensen alnico cab and it sounds great. Seems to sound great through anything.
the classic 80 is one of my favorite speakers for dumble amps though and Joe BONAMASSA puts them in everything now, including his new tweeds, so that's been a great endorsement of my thinking on these speakers.

Marcus, now that you have almost the full rage (2nd Gen, #102 which once was #124, Bluesmaster, Tweedle, Mayer Two Rock Sig amp - I hope I didn't forget any) which one is your favourite and how does each compare to the other.norburybrook wrote: ↑Tue Sep 11, 2018 1:58 pm I've got a cream alnico in the second gen combo and it's great so i'm sure it would work with the deluxe. And do you think a 100W tweedle with SS rectifier would sound decent or the magic is on the small iron, sag and and early breakup?

I'll answer this when I have time to think and get my thoughts together on this.

Re: New build- Tweedle Dee
update:
tolexed half of my speaker cabinet, waiting for another deliver over the next few days to finish.
I aslo started thinking about the amp. it has three inputs, mic, and a high/low. looking at the schematic they're pretty much the same using different halves of the V1. I thought why not experiment with the 'mic' input as it has it's own side of the valve, cathodes, plate values. So I installed 220k plate resistor and a 3.3k/5uf cathode like the Dumble ODS values.
Interesting results, it cut's the gain but gives that nice compressed high plate clean I like, so a worth while experiment as it doesn't seem to have impacted on the other channels in any negative way. If anyone can see any negatives in doing this let me know.
so, as I had the iron out, I fitted an on-off-on DPDT switch to have NFB, I've put a 56k resistor the 8ohm tap and have split the cathode and resistor to the P.I. on the switch.
I instantly got the squeal of death so reversed my primaries and now the amp sounds like a black face Princeton with NFB in, so a very nice addition and makes the amp incredibly versatile. Thanks to Rob Robinette for the info.
I might put this on a footswitch as the change from Princeton to tweed is quite pronounced and would be a great thing to be able to switch. I'll see what I've got lying around tomorrow.

Nice build, can’t wait for the report about your favorite
If it could be helpful on similar tweed amps featuring NFB the cathode capacitor of the stage where the feedback is applied was switch from 22/25uF to 0.1 (Fender and Gibson alike), something you could try.

Re: New build- Tweedle Dee
Tom,
just been doing some more reading and it seems there's the plexi mod which is 220k plate-2.7k/0.69uF cathode with a 0.0047uF coupling cap for V1a. It's close to where I was thinking
so that's a good thing.
might give that a go tomorrow.

Re: New build- Tweedle Dee
her she is then with matching cabinet. At the moment it has an eminence speaker in there which is sounding very nice, I have a Celestion classic lead 80 on the way as well.
Used the amp today for the first time, finished it this morning and used it this afternoon
jazz trio. interestingly I plugged my nylon string electro acoustic into it, through necessity and it sounded great, very surprised. Plugged into the 'dumble' mic channel and had the NFB switch on, bit of reverb from a Strymon flint, great sound.
speaker cabinet built completely without any consideration for any kind of acoustic design properties
purely size and aesthetics. Sounds marvellous. It's reasonably light, all 18mm plywood, front and rear panels are 12mm (that's 3/4 and 1/2 inch to you imperialists) so it's nice and solid.
I think the amp and speaker weigh less than my '78 les Paul in the photo....
