12 Terminal wiring DPDT ON/OFF/ON

Post by RockinRocket »

http://www.ebay.com/itm/PKG1-Heavy-Duty ... 3641.l6368

I cant find any wiring info on this type of switch with a ON OFF ON layout.

I'm assuming the 6 centers terminals are OFF with 3 OFFs go to one poles (top on) and the other corresponding 3 OFFS go to the other poles (bottom on)?? :?

Yes I think so.

The "keyway" as referred to in the layout I'm still not 100% that the 6 center terminals are the OFFs or what switches what.

I messed up the title to the ebay link. Its a 4pdt Off/On Off/On. The photo shows On/OFF/On. So I figured in my OP this is how the switch works?

It's most likely just like a normal DPDT on/off/on.
Up would probably connect the bottom terminals of each of the four switches,
Middle disconnects all four switches,
Down would then connect the top terminals of each of the four switches.

Actually now that I think about the switch some more I have no clue how this thing works!!

Maybe the center 4 are off and top and bottom 4 are on :?

Its either 10 bucks from mouser or a month wait from Hong Kong

It's a normal on/off/on ..I think you may be over thinking this. it's just like 4 single pole on /off/on switches controlled by one bat.

So 4 in center are off?

4 x on/off/on switches in parallel?

Hey Pompeiisneaks maybe we can delete this thread at the end of the day so my stupidity isn't seen forever

I have a mental block on switch wiring. I find it incredibly difficult to hold a picture of what to do in my mind's eye. When I have anything more complicated that a simple on-off, I get lost very quickly.

I stumbled across this today: https://learn.sparkfun.com/tutorials/switch-basics and it looks very helpful. Your 4PDT switch is covered. Of course, the Google search 4P2T or 4PDT brings up a plethora of diagrams for all sorts of applications that people have already figured out, so feel free to cheat!

Yes in parallel....switch in the middle position.. off no connection....down on ...to one pole ....up connection to other pole. Also the with the bat ..say down ..on the pole side it would be the top pole that's connected....not the bottom pole as you may think.

So useing just one section....if you wanted to turn a green LED on ...you would connect the ground to the middle and the green LED to the bottom pole ...then when you turn the switch on.. or up... the green LED will be on. Now if you connect a red LED to the top pole ...when you push the bat down you will turn on the red LED.....bat set to the middle position you will have no LEDs turned on...so that is the off position. All 4 sections are the same idea controlled by the one bat.....
